Day 2Canyoning in Nevidio Canyon

The morning after your arrival, you’ll be served breakfast between 7:30-8:30 and you’ll have a meet and greet with your guides and drivers and board our all-terrain vehicles. You will need to bring enough personal gear along for three nights which will be spent at three separate locations along your path through the deepest canyon in Europe - with a length of 80 Kilometers.

As you leave the Hotel you’ll go in the direction of “Žabljak”. You’ll arrive at the parking lot located at the entrance to the canyon “Nevidio '' which is located inside of the canyon of the “Komarnica '' river and is it’s most interesting component.

After changing into appropriate gear and a quick briefing from our licensed guides, you will enter the canyon. After all, the adventure that follows will have little to do with words and much more with creating an unforgettable memory. In the upcoming 4 hours, you will treck and swim down 1700 meters of the Nevidio Canyon. You will have ample opportunity to dive from cliffs into deep natural pools, climb rocks, swim and maneuver through crevices in the rocky canyon, as it is only 50 cm wide in some parts.

Half way through the canyon you’ll take a break for drinks and snacks to recharge your batteries. A lot of energy is needed for the last half of the Nevidio canyon and the hour long intense, at times steep, trek back to the starting point.

Next, you’ll head to the remote small farm in which you’ll have lunch and dinner.

Between lunch and dinner, you will take a walk to the nearby Devil's and Riblja lakes and Durmitor's most famous necropolis, the Greek Cemetery. The Durmitor National Park area is packed full with mythical stories, some of which your guide will convey to you.

On the way to Splavišta, you will stop at the Đurđevića Tari Bridge, where we will cross the canyon via the longest zip line in Europe.

The first rafting day covers the section of the river between “Žabljaka” to “Radovan Luke”, measuring around 30 kilometers.
You will require about 4 hours to complete this section, when you consider there will be swimming breaks and rests.

In this first section you will pass by ”Žugića luke”, ”Mušovića vrela”, ”Lazin kamen”, places where the river is the narrowest, deepest and makes for the most interesting rafting in the Balkans. You will also encounter the rapid river “Ljutica” which rushes and foams dramatically for 150 meters.

Particularly around the village of Tepce, by which you will pass, the Tara river canyon is at its deepest and the only accessible by rafts such as the one where you will be on board. You will also pass by “Bajlovića siga” which is a waterfall emitting from the cave “Bučevica”, which is also only accessible by raft.

The duration for this section of the river varies based on a number of factors, predominantly the water level which is lower in mid and late summer, which can make the journey last three or more hours.

During the rafting trip you will take a number of swimming and photo breaks. You’ll have the opportunity to see and stop at other rivers flowing into the Tara including “Šipčanica” which, along with its beauty, is the coldest of these rivers. After your rafting trip has been completed at “Šćepan Polje” you will board our all terrain vehicles and head back to hotel “Kompas” for lunch and drinks.

More precisely you will be driven to “Tjentište” which has a central location and then head to “Prijevor”, the plateau looking over the national park, using ATVs.

From Tjentište toward rainforest “Perućica” and the Prijevor plateau, your journey will continue via ATV. Given that the ATVs are automatic rather than manual, after a short briefing you will be familiar enough with the mechanism to hit the pedal to the medal alongside your guide!

In the following five or so hours you will ride through the scenic environment of the “Sutjeska” national park, one of the last protected areas of rainforest in Europe. As this is an ATV safari, your journey will consist of visiting numerous viewpoints throughout the park on the way to Prijevor plateau.

You will take a first break at the viewpoint “Baškita”, which is about a 20 minute walk from the main path. This viewpoint consists of two plateaus which offer a view of the “Grasshopper” waterfall which is located in the heart of the rainforest, as well as of the Tjentište “valley of heroes”. After a few further kilometers you will make another stop at the viewpoint “Dragoš Sedlo”.

From the parking lot at “Dragos sedlu” you will follow the path to the viewpoint, her eyou will also have a view of the “Grasshopper” waterfall at about 1 kilometer distance as the crow flies. This waterfall drops approximately 70 meters, the crashing water and it’s echoes can be heard throughout the area.

You will have an opportunity to explore and photograph throughout the trip, after which you will head to the Prijevor plateau. As Prijevor is one of the most famous and beautiful viewpoints of Sutjeska National park, we will arrange a picnic lunch at this location to enjoy with the stunning view. Zelengora is covered with green pastures, forests, and lakes.

Afterwards, you will head to the stables in the village of “Vrbnica”. Our host and instructor will introduce us to the basics of riding. These are small Bosnian mountain horses which are trained for amateur riders and should be treated gently by all who ride them.

Once you’ve mounted your steed or mare you’ll gallop over to the black and white lakes, which are about 10 kilometers away. Since this is an all-day activity, depending on the desire and willingness of the participants, the horseback tour can be extended to Lake Orlovac. You therefore have an opportunity to visit three separate glacial lakes of Zelengora mountain.
